Scientific Method Project

Hypothesis

If I take one sheet of 3 different types of paper towels and drop single droplets of water in the center of towel, then the cheapest paper towel will leak first because it is the least absorbent.

Materials:

-medicine(eye) dropper

-3 water containers

-3 colors of food dye

-water

- 3 different brands of paper towels

-pencil & paper

-working space

My end results showed that Bounty was the most absorbent by much. They also showed that Great Value was the least absorbent. The Sparkle paper towels were in the middle. Bounty absorbed 661 droplets of water, Great Value held 77 droplets of water, and Sparkle absorbed 152.

For my experiment, I tested how many drops of water could be absorbed by different brands of paper towels before they leaked.

My conclusion can help when aborbent paper towels are needed. For example in a spill, if you wanted to be able to use the least amount of paper towels possible then you would want the most absorbent ones. Bounty would be helpful in that situation. My experiment ran smoothly. I made sure I had all materials needed and that I knew what I was doing before I started.

1) Puchase 3 brands of paper towels (know which brand is the least expensive.)

2)In 3 separate water containers, mix in 5 drops of food dye with water.

3)Create a tally chart to record data on.

4) Get two friends to hold up the sides of a paper towel.

My experiment showed that Bounty paper towels are the most absorbant out of Bounty, Sparkle, and Great Value paper towels. My hypothesis held through the experiment seeing as I predicted that the least expensive (Great Value) brand would be the less absorbant and it was. Great Value only held 77 water drops.

7) Using a different brand repeat step 5 until leakage occurs.

8) With the third and final brand repeat step 5 until water drips.
