Coca-Cola Ethics and Social Responsibility

Coca-A-Cola

Invented in 1886 by pharmacist John Stith Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. Coca-Cola is the best-selling soft drink in most countries beside a select few. To name a few are Scotland, Peru, and Japan. Coke even out sells Pepsi by a landslide, with Coca-Cola’s shares having a steady increase over the years as to Pepsi’s slowly declining. Just this past year in 2017, Coca-Cola has made 35,410 Million dollars in revenue. Coca-Cola was originally intended as a patent medicine when it was first invented. It gets its name by its two main ingredients which are coca leaves and kola nuts.

Coca-Cola Ethics and Social Responsibility

Ethics in the Coke Business

Table of context

Coca-Cola has had some slip ups in the past that has had people question their social responsibility and ethics. Obesity is a growing problem in the United States of America. When it comes to sugary drinks Coca-Cola is a leader in this problem. Most of Coca-Cola’s drinks have an unreal amount of sugar per can or bottle. Coca-cola is so corrosive that it can remove acid from a car battery! It causes tooth decay, diabetes, and obesity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around half of the US population will drink a sugary soda beverage on any given day, with the consumption of these drinks being highest among teenagers and young adults.

Thesis:

Social responsibility

Ethics continue.

Coke is the number one leading soft drink company in America today, and their social responsibility and ethics have a big impact on society.

Although Coca-Cola has had their negative history, they have done so much to better the community and to help people in need. It isn’t a question if Coca-Cola’s drinks are healthy or not, they’re not. A good thing that Coca-Cola has done for their community is they donated $550k to Head of Anti-Obesity Group. The money was said to go to travel, educational activities and research on weight management.

The International Labor Rights Fund and the International Steel Union, acting on behalf of a Columbian trade union accused Coke of using paramilitary security forces to murder, torture and kidnap trade union leaders. They claimed that Coke deliberately retained open relations with right-wing Columbian paramilitaries to intimidate trade union representatives at Coke’s bottling plants. Supposedly, the paramilitaries were invited into the bottling plant and the murders and other acts occurred there. While Coca-Cola doesn’t have control over what happens at the bottling plants in Columbia, they do operate them. So, Coca-Cola vigorously denied any wrong doing and said it has no control over what happens at the bottling plants. But, there name is on the building so the public believes that they have something to do with it which isn’t a very good look for the big company.

Social responsibly Continue

Talking about social responsibility, Coca-Cola has done outstanding things for the community. For example, they have done several social projects such as, a philanthropy called “Education on Wheels”. This gives children a rich learning environment that has them do different activities to develop critical thinking methods.

conclusion

Work cited yay!

In conclusion, Coca-Cola has had a rocky past whether it was in their control or not. The massive company has had to deal with being under the microscope for a long time and continues to do well despite it being so. They give back to their community as much as they can, and the people of the world are better off because of it. Coca-Colas ethics and social responsibility are in the right place as far as I am concerned, and they should continue doing what they do and keep giving to the world.
