The novel Minrs, is a great read with a powerful message of our current world issues. After reading this novel, I felt like the world is not really doing anything about our over usage of resources and the impact it has on us. If we continue on with war and fighting, we will end up living like the characters in the novel. This is why we must act upon it soon and stop it before it becomes reality.
This last artifact is a popular TV show called The 100. It is a show about a 100 teenagers being sent down to Earth since their Aircraft is running out of Oxygen. It relates with this novel because it shares the same issue, the lack of resources. Both are about teenagers who are in crisis and trying to survive. In the 100, the main character, Clarke takes charge and leads the group to finding camp and surviving throughout the show. In Minrs, Christopher takes lead to help the survivors get to safety. The characters share common characteristics and are very similar personality wise.

The novel Explores the issue of survival under the lack of resources.
This article talks about the Syrian wars of our generation. It relates to this novel because it shows how the impact of war has on society. One of the main aspects of the novel was about war. When counties go into war it is for land, profit, or simply hate, and it still continues today. The children are our future and if they are influenced by war it will only lead to situations similar to attack on Perses.
This artifact is an image from the Syrian Civil War. It shows survivors trying to get to safety after a horrific attack. This connects with the novel because it shows how wars between religions are affecting humanity. It also shows that children are affected by it the most as proven in the novel. In the novel Chritopher meets a little girl named Darcy which reminds me of the characters in this photograph

By writing this novel, the author is trying to tell us that in a critical situation, you must take charge and lead others to survive and maintain calm. This connects most people, especially high school students. In high school we are taught to be confident in ourselves and comfortable sharing our ideas with a group of people which connects with the theme of this book.
One way the author demonstrated this was when Christopher meets the group of survivors and begins to lead them to safety. "Okay, everyone. We need to get Alek to the infirmary. We need food, water and shelter."(71) The survivors had no sight of what to do after losing their families and Christopher takes charge in this crisis.
A second way he demonstrates this is when he decides he will stay dedicated on saving the survivors and getting back home regardless of what happens. "My parents' voices rang in my ears ; my father telling me to be a leader, my mother telling me to run. They both wanted me to survive that meant staying underground...If we were lucky we could ride out the blackout. Then we'd signal earth and get saved."(91) The main character of this novel, Christopher, highly demonstrates the theme of taking leadership in critical situations
The behavior of Christopher, shows he treats people with positivity even if they act negatively in return. "Alek! Stop! Mandeep yelled. I heard his first in connect with Mandeep and she fell back...I lunged at him, wrapping my arms around his chest. 'Alek we're all dealing with stuff, but you need to come with us. We need to go now!"(102) This proves that even though one of the survivors was acting aggressively with Christopher, he remained calm and still tried to get him and the others to safety. He is an optimistic character in the novel who takes lead to get the others back to Earth, safely. His state of mind proves that he has many worries and sometimes feels as if he is not the right person to lead the survivors. Even though he makes mistakes, he doesnt let that stop him, he continues to lead others and motivate them, even if it requires putting a mask on everyday and acting happy for the happiness of others whom are not even his family. This shows Cristopher is a character who shows leadership, selflessness and takes care of his people putting high contribution into saving his community.
The authors protagonist is a character who loses his parents in the starting of the novel , after the attack. He loses sight of whats important and wants to give up after seeing more than half of his people die right in front of him. "Her eyes met mine. She shouted "Run!" An energy bolt slammed into her and she disappeared in shower of flames and smoke, I blinked. She was gone.
She was dead."(56) After seeing his mother die right in front of him, he loses sight of everything and wants to give up. After being reminded by his father he must stay strong and lead the others to to survival he changes his attitude.
There is a conflict between the people of Perses and the attackers. The attackers killed most of the humans on Perses in the starting of the novel leaving many children orphaned. "Helmeted figures were emerging from landing stairs, firing more bursts."(57) There were only a few survivors, all under the age of 16.
During the middle of the novel, Christopher is reunited with his best friend, Elena. " We have to fight! said Elena. I tried to sound as calm as possible. 'We kids not soldiers. Fighting the Landers will guarantee we all die.' "This is a war." said Elena."(137) This leads to a conflict between the two characters. Christopher is focused on survival an Elena wants to fight. Some of the children start to believe the should go their own way and Christopher should not be leading them.
In order to prove this, the author creates a world where a small population of humans from Earth live on a planet named Perses. Earth is running out of resources and the people on Perses are responsible for gathering materials and saving Planet Earth.Perses is rich in materials such as minerals and metals, however the community on Perses value food and water more than the materials they mine. "There were more motivational posters up on the walls, with slogans like FOOD AND WATER ARE PRECIOUS AS GOLD, DON'T WASTE." (90) This shows that in the novel, the setting which these people live in, is highly dependent on food since they are running out of most resources for survival.
The author also mentions the Russian war between them and Napoloeon. "Instead of staying and fighting, the Russians burned everything first, making sure Napoleon wasn't able to salvage anything...Napoleon eventually ran out of supplies. The Russian won."(97) This proves that the setting in which these children live in, is in such crisis that they have to prevent the destruction of their resources in order to survive. This novel demonstrates a world that might be the future of humanity of we do not find a wiser solution now.
