Timocracy was a government that was a mix between a democracy and an oligarchy. In a Timocracy only land owners could participate in government. In more extreme forms of Timocracy the wealthy rule for the sake of honor and glory, not for power and wealth and would have no regard for social or civic duties. The concept of Timocracy was created in the sixth century B.C by Greek Athenian statesman, Solon.
