Functionalism is the oldest and dominant conceptual perspective in society. It addresses the society as a whole in terms of function of its constituent elements such as norms, customs, traditions, institutions. Both Durkheim and talcott explain social stability through the concept of stability.

Structural functional is simply known as functionalism. It is a theory that sees society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability.
