Roger

Hargreaves

Charles Roger Hargreaves was born at a private hospital in Cleakheaton, West Yorkshire, England on May 9, 1935.

Roger always wanted to be a cartoonist, and wrote his first Mr. Men book, Mr. Tickle, while working as a creative director.

He had a difficult time finding a publisher, but once he had found one his children's books were successful from there.

By 1983 Little Miss was a television show with voices by John Alderton and Pauline Collins from Upstairs, Downstairs.

Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves had four children, Adam, Giles, and twins Sophie and Amelia. His books were first thought of when his son Adam asked what a Tickle looked like and Mr. Tickle was born.

He published his first Mr. Men book in 1971, then the Little Miss series appeared in 1981.

Little Miss twins were dedicated to his twin daughters Sohpie and Amelia.

After hargreaves death, his son Adam continued drawing the Mr. Men characters until 2004 when he sold the rights to the Chorion group for £28 million.

That is $44,990,400 US Dollars

Mr. Men and Little Miss are to join the popular Hello Kitty, after Chorion had sold the title to Japanese firm Sanrio.

Gene Simmons, Stephen King, Jane Austen, and Ken Kesey are all fans of Hargreaves and his work.
