My Question

My Question was, "How much acid is in different fruits?"

Acid is important for the blood. It is measured in pH and lower the pH, higher the amount of acid. Fruits usually have a pH of 5 or lower.

Dependent variable

My Dependent variable is the amount of pH in the different fruits.

Independent Variable

Constants

All the different fruits I will try.

  • Chart
  • Sample strip roll
  • location
  • Temperature
  • Age of fruit
  • Sample size of juice

My Hypothesis

My hypothesis is:

If I test the pH of all of the fruits, then the orange will have the lowest PH level and highest acidity.

Materials

  • Fruits: Grapes, Grapefruit, Kiwi, Mango, and Orange
  • pH strips
  • Clear Cups
  • Place to record data
  • Cutting board and Knife

and PAPER TOWELS!!!!!

Measuring

I will measure using pH strips and a pH chart by writing down the fruit and writng the pH level.

Conclusion

Prezi images

My experiment concluded that grapefruit has the highest acid level because it is a strong citrus fruit. My hypothesis was incorrect because orange had the same amount of acid as the other fruits. My new Question is, "Do all citrus fruits have similar pH levels?"

Procedure

How much acid is in different fruits?

My Science Project

  • Gather all Materials
  • Cut up a bit of one fruit and squeeze a small amount in a clear cup
  • Repeat this with all other fruits, trying to squeeze about the same amount of fruit juice
  • Take a small strip of pH strip and dip it into the cup
  • Record your data by comparing the pH strip to the chart
  • Repeat this with other fruits, using the same pH paper
  • Do a Repeated Trial for confirmation

Results

Acidity levels in different fruit.

BY: Ritika Jha

As I put in the acid strips, they all turned about the same color. The pH I measured was all about the same. My Repeated Trial all had the same data.
