Community Initiated Efforts:

Disaster Experiences

The Barangay has created various activities on prevention and preparation such as, clean-ups, drills, and discussion among residents.

Barangay Pasong Tamo is compromised of 55 % informal settlers. Without observance of fire safety standards, most of the houses they live in which are made out of light materials and proximate to each other, makes the community defenseless against fire. Furthermore, The Barangay is consists of various creeks and rivers. These are vessels of waters coming from high areas going to Manila Bay

Recommendations:

Beginning August 7 up to August 10, 2012, Barangay Pasong Tamo experienced heavy and unusual rains, which the Philippine AOR recognized as monsoon rains (Habagat). The Punong Barangay immediately suspended classes for the safety of the children and students.

1. De-clogging of water ways (creek/rivers);

2. Rip rapping of the creeks and rivers at Libis I & II, Marcel Compound & Pantraco left & right

3. Road Improvement/elevation of Mapayapa/Sampaguita Road;

4. De-clogging of existing drainage system;

5. Improvement of old drainage system in the internal and external roads;

6. Developement of area flood-free plan on various areas and adjacent barangays;

7. Conduct of various activities and procurement disaster related equipment as reflected in the attached BDRRMP.

The outsized amount of water that passed through the Pasong Tamo rivers caused floods among residential areas.

Barangay Pasong Tamo is not prone to floods since it is located in a high land but, it is prone to fire. This happens because of crowded buildings and the contribution of the informal settlers. This barangay as evacuation centers which gives others, who were affected by these incidents, a home.
