Rote learning, or a superficial, surface approach to learning means:
Students are aiming to reproduce material in a test or exam rather than actually understand it.
It involves:
- acceptance of information
- and memorization as isolated and unlinked facts
- leads to superficial retention of material for examinations
- does not promote long-term retention of knowledge and information.
