Clearly Langston Hughes has ties to Modernist ideals. The majority of his writings are protesting something the masses agree with. Which at this time was Black rights in the United States.
Langston hughes us a Harlem Renaissance era poet playwriter, and novelist, his works were to help the Black working class get justice in a rather racist society. Many read his work to feel more confident, because he confronted the sterotypes of the American American peoples.
-Born on February 1st, 1902 in Joplin, MO
-Father left him and his family at a young age to go to Mexico and escape racism.
-His mother was not around a lot, so his grandmother raised him for most of his childhood.
-They moved from town to town a lot. The same kind of small towns across the country.
-He was elected class poet, only because of the stereotype “all negros have rhythm”. But this would later lead to his career in poetry and song writing.
-When he was working as a bus boy he met Vachel Lindsay, a famous white poet. She saw some of his works and then published them, leading to his new career.
- Hughes' poem "The Weary Blues" won first prize in a poetry contest, which later was published into a book of poems that he had written.
-His second poetry book was "Fine clothes to the Jew", speaking out about urban society.
