Sweet vs. Sour

Our preference for sweetness is present as birth.

We inherently do not like bitter tastes.

...while our natural response to something sweet is generally positive.

Our natural response to a sour taste is a negative one...

A study conducted on babies showed that our natural taste inclination is a sweet one. Newborns, just hours after birth were given quinine as the very first thing they tasted and the look they gave was that of displeasure.

Bitter, or sour things tend to be an indication of poison or unripeness.

Sweets are a source of energy.

Sweetness indicates the presence of carbohydrates, and is a taste that is craved the most.
