Longitude

Cut the world in half

360/2= 180

All points West of the Prime Meridian = 0 to 180W

All points East of the Prime Meridian = 0 to 180E

Lines that run in the same direction as the Prime Meridian (they intersect at the poles)

Run North-South, measure East-West.

LONGitude are the LONG lines on the map

Vocabulary

Equator:

horizontally circles Earth halfway between the North and South poles.

Separates Northern and Southern hemisphere

Prime Meridian:

Separates Eastern and Western hemisphere.

add these lines to your Earth Do Now

Latitude

Run East/West like the rungs of a LAdder

measure North and South

*Still stuck? Think "latitude, flatitude"

These lines run wide

1. How many degrees are in a circle?

2. How many would be in each section if you divided that circle by 4?

Latitude runs from: 0 to 90 N, 90N to 0, 0 to 90 S and 90 S to 0
