Yohanan Ben Zakkai wanted to talk to the Romans, but he had to get past the Zealots. His friends carried him outside of the city in a coffin. The Zealots never thought a living person would be in it!!

Yohanan's Thinking

* RESULT*

Yohanan Ben Zakkai had a hunch that if he just talked to the Romans, he could make sure that a study center was made to keep Judaism alive. However, he also knew that the Zealots would never allow that. So, with his quick thinking, Yohanan Ben Zakkai came up with the coffin idea because he knew that all dead were buried outside the city walls.

When he reached the Romans, Yohanan Ben Zakkai asked them to let him build a center of Jewish study in the town of Jabneh. The Romans agreed and Yohanan built a center in the town.
