The real history to this town is yet to be fully determined, since for the longest this town has been around, there has always been two different stories that have circulated around what truly happened in the past.
Some of the first settlers to this town had a lot to contribute to its history, among those settlers were:
-Archibald Hodge;
-Mary Corner;
- James Pevehouse;
- James Hodge;
- Owen Shannon;
- William C. Clark;
- William Landrum;
-Zachariah Landrum;
-William M. Rankin;
-Noah Griffith;
-Benjamin Rigby;
-William Atkins;
-Jacob Shannon;
- Raleigh Rogers;
- John Corner;
-Anne White.
The most important settler out of all of the above was John Corner, because he was the owner of a major share of the land where this town eventually became the town its know to be today. Therefore, one of the storys includes John Corner. In this story there was a lot of sell of land that belonged to John Corner.
The second story consists of a trading post supposedly set a mile north of wherer the site is today, long before 1837.
It is said to had been Owen and Margaret Montgomery Shannon to have settled on a piece of land where they began to trade with the indians.
There is a telegraph that states the sale of lots of land located in the new town of Montgomery. That Telegraph was dated July of 1837.
The telegraoh also states that the town of Montgomery would serve as a seat for Justice, this came to be a true fact when they transfered the records to Conroe.
In this story Montgomery was known for being a trade center for services and goods.
Starting the year of 1839, religious groups and schools started developing within the town of Montgomery.
By the year of 1848, Montgomery became a city, having people start to build big homes and building by the year of 1850.
Because of the civil war, a lot of the developments were closed, but nevertheless, bussinesses started to pick up again by 1900.
The town was on top of its game until the railroads came into the picture, because of that reason Montgomery had to let Conroe become the new County seat.

STORY NUMBER ONE
TABLE OF CONTENTS
The town of Montgomery was found by W. Shepperd in July of 1837, along with the help of John Wyatt Moody. They owned about 200 acres of land which they used to and claim a town which they came to name "Montgomery".
Mr. Shepperd was the owner of that land as well as the homes that were sitting on it.
Mr. John W. Moody was the first Auditor of the Republic of Texas, therefore Mr. Shepperd needed and knew that having Mr. Moody be part of the development of the town would benefit financially and poitically.
The name of the town was basically named after the county of where Mr. Moody had previously resided, which was Montgomery County, Alabama.
Finally, on July 8 of 1837 the name of the town as "Montgomery" became partially official after the publishment of the name on print for the first time ever.
In my own opinion, i feel like the second story that was told was more true in facts and proof as to how this town came to be.
The records that have been found have supported as evidence the second story.
Either way. they both give us an idea of how back in the 1800's and 1900's people came to build and develop towns.
