...Therefore the job outlook for nurses is very fortunate.

Job Security-23 percent increase by 2016

Career Advancement-Continuing with educational and training experience while gaining experience and improving skills.

Shift Work-Evening and night shifts (Ideal for nurses continuing education)

Nurse Community-The community of neonatal nurses is close and supportive.

Job Satisfaction-The emotional and spiritual rewards are great when dealing with newborns and their famailies.

Cons:

  • Long Hours-Many neonatal nurses work long shifts, including sometimes working two standard shifts back to back when there is a shortage of staff.
  • Physically Demanding-Working as a neonatal nurse requires you to spend many hours on your feet. It also can lead to back problems, and it a very physically demanding job.
  • Heartbreaking Cases-Death is an unfortunate part of any nurse's job description, but witnessing the death of a baby can be especially difficult.

My Educational Career Plan:

Once I graduate from high school, I would like to attend Misouri Southern State University to earn my Associate's Degree in nursing. From there I may decide to continue my education further but that has yet to be decided :)
