As you can see, Mr. Dussel should not be allowed to enter the Secret Annex. Mr. Dussel would eliminate most of the free space, eat the food that they desperately need, and create more problems. The Franks and Vaan Dans already have enough company, so Dussel will be no help. With Mr. Dussel starting arguments, they are bound to get caught. To conclude, Mr. Frank should never have allowed Mr. Dussel into the Secret Annex because he only added to the burden of the residents.
DANGER!!!
EVIL!!!
If the Franks let Dussel stay in the Annex with them, the amount of food would greatly decrease. Even before Dussel started staying in the Annex, food was scarce and difficult to scavenge. "[Finding out that only beans are for dinner]Mrs.Van Daan- Poor Putti!... But what can we do? That's all that Miep brought us."(page 232) Food will be even more rare if another meal has to be served. When we read about Mr. Dussel's actions, we were reminded of the children's book The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr. Just like the tiger that came into main character Sophie's house and ate everything, Dussel would be nothing but trouble.
Mr. Dussel
If Mr. Dussel lives with the Franks and Vaan Dans, many more conflicts would be created. When Dussel is accepted into the Annex, he ironically states "I get along well with children,"(page 242) while in fact, he does not. For example, many of Mr. Dussel's arguments are with Peter and Anne. Furthermore, most of the quarreling that occurs in the Secret Annex are triggered by Mr. Dussel, such as the one in page 260, "Dussel - Yes. Yes. Everybody gets exactly the same... except Mr.Van Daan always gets a little bit more." With so many outbursts, it is very possible that someone may overhear them and turn them into the Green Police. Therefore, they will all lose the two things that is most important to them: safety and freedom. Mr. Dussel can endanger all of their lives if he stays in the Secret Annex.
First of all, the Secret Annex is an extremely small living space to start off with, and to add an additional resident would create more havoc. Furthermore, it would also make the Secret Annex more uncomfortable than it already is. According to Psycology Today, scientists have proven that crowding causes schizophrenia, a type of stress that creates dillusions and hallucinations. In this case, the Franks, the Vaan Dans, and Mr. Dussel would be stuffed in an incredibly tiny place for about two years.
