By: Maddie Leonard

Prompt

Success to me means that a person achieved a goal they set out to reach.

How someone can become or stay successful.

What makes someone a success? Explain how you define success, using specific details and examples in your response.

  • it can sometimes be hard to explain success to someone because everyone has different views
  • to some, success could mean reaching a goal
  • to others, success could mean trying your best to succeed
  • for example, one person might think having a job is being successful, while another person may only find high-paying jobs to be a success
  • a person has to work hard, most of the time, to achieve goals
  • hard work usually pays off in the end
  • becoming successful can be easy but staying successful can become tricky
  • success is usually something we associate with a short term goal
  • long term success means you have to keep up the good work over a long period of time
  • I feel that if a person achieves long-term success then he/she can truly be called successful
  • how successful someone is is often perceived different in the eye of the beholder

Expository

Introduction:

Introduction Strategy used:

I considered myself successful when I received a large part in my class play.

Thesis Statement:

Success to me means that a person has achieved one of their goals that they have set out to reach, however, a successful person is someone who has achieved long term success and stayed on top of things.

The term "successful" can have a number of different meanings and associations for different people. The dictionary defines success as, "the accomplishments of one's goals" or "the attainment of wealth, positions, honors, or the like." Success truly lies in the eyes of the beholder. What we ourselves consider to be successful might be very different from what others think about success. Success to me means that a person achieved a goal they set out to reach. However, I feel that a person can only be called a success once they have achieved long term success. I considered myself to be successful when I received a major role in my class play Hamlet. In all, success can be perceived in many different ways and forms.

General to Specific

  • I prepared for a long time to become ready for my audition
  • I studied the different acting techniques I needed to know to portray different types of characters
  • I put extra time and thought into the character I was auditioning for
  • I gave it my best shot to impress the judges
  • In the end all my hard work payed off because I received a very large roll as Horatio in the production of Hamlet
