Two ambulances were at the bridge waiting for them. Cort went with the girls to the ambulances and then faints. A day later, Cort wakes up and his dad explains he was out for twenty-four hours. His dad also explained how the girls were fine. In the afternoon, Cort goes with his dad home. His dad then tells his son he is thinking about buying a house. They worked on the cleaning up the roads. That night, Cort was going to get some soup cans from the garage when Catfish came in. Cort and his dad were shocked and Cort gave him a bath after. The next day, Cort and his dad took down the plywood of the Stovalls house. His dad got an RV in the morning and they parked near a bait shop. Liza came home with crutches and Cort with his dad went de-nailing lumber. After dinner, Cort went to check up on Liza and they talked. In a conversation, Liza explains she had to go with Jason to the fall party, and she doesn't like him. Cort ends up asking her to the fall party. Cort swam to get help and grip on to a refrigerator. Cort's dad found him and got him on his boat. Cort tells his dad where the girls are and his dad radioed Sheriff Curley to get an ambulance. When Cort and his dad get there, Rusty charges at the hull of the boat. Cort's dad was able to trap him and Cort got the girls. The story begins with a thirteen year old boy, Cort, explaining how life was for him and his father before the hurricane. He goes with his father, who does river tours for a living, to take two clients hunting. He also goes with his dog, Catfish, for the hunt. They embark to Bottle Creek, in hunt of an alligator Cort's dad call's No-name. They capture it, and Cort almost gets his
arm bite off.

The next day, Cort checked the TV and saw the hurricane going towards Mississippi. He tells his dad of its heading after. His dad goes to run some errands. Cort then explains to the reader the area around him. He tells of his neighbors, the Stovalls', and their house set atop a hill from the river. Cort lives in a houseboat with his father and dog. After Mr. Stovall died of cancer, Cort and his dad maintained the Stovalls' land for free rent. Cort then told when his mom was around his father would talk about building a house. Cort then was approached by Liza Stovall, who is the daughter of Mr. Stovall, and invites him to lunch. He accepts and goes on checking a few things, then going there to lunch. After he tells the reader how Liza changed when her dad died. He then went and helped his dad, after.
The next morning, Cort and his dad put up plywood on the Stovalls' house for the hurricane. After their lunch break, Cort talked to Jason Carter, whom Cort is jealous of, because he likes Liza too. That night, Cort is at home and is approached by Sheriff Curly Stanson, who is Cort's father's friend. He tells Cort, the governor issued a evacuation order, meaning there will be no help if they stay. The next day, Cort has breakfast with the Stovalls. After breakfast, Cort went and helped his father with last-minute preparations, Liza joined later. They stop for a quick lunch and continue. After, Cort helps his dad with the houseboat and then takes Catfish his dog to the Stovalls house. Cort's dad goes to get ice after.
"Terror At Bottle Creek" is a book by Watt Key and is a realistic fiction. It's setting is in the Alabama coast and it is a first-person narrative. I enjoyed many aspects of the book, such as its reference to a fictional hurricane "Igor" hitting the Gulf Coast.
Cort gets back to the girls and Liza gets bit by a cottonmouth snake on her leg. Cort managed to suck out the venom from the wound and spit it out. After, Cort tells to the reader how he has seen a snakebit before. The guy who got bit had his arm removed. Cort then started taking snakes off of the tree. When morning came, Cort looked at Liza's wound, to see it was purple and black. He chewed some juniper berries and pressed the paste on her leg. A wild pig, Cort called Rusty, went ballistic after what Cort reasoned snakebit. Cort straps both girls to the tree and begins to leave for help. Cort goes to the tree were the bear is, next to them and jumped on a hackberry sapling into the water.
Cort tells the reader, how he found Catfish. He still talks to the dog about his parents, since Liza's father died. He feels a little less alone in the world with his dog. Cort tests out the generator. Francie, Liza's younger sister, gets him to go and play Candy Land with her and Liza. Cort tries to radio his dad, no answer. Mrs. Stovall tucked Francie in, and went to go get Cort's dad. After, theres a phone call and Liza answers it, and then gives it to Cort. Cort's dad tells Cort that he is at Cort's mom's house. Cort gets mad because his dad was leaving him alone, but then calms down. Mrs. Stovall was with Cort's mom and dad. They end the call and Liza checks on Francie. Liza and Cort start playing a game of Monopoly, until a loud boom and the lights went out. They go to Francie and Liza calls her mom to calm Francie down. Cort gets the generator on and plugs in the freezer, two lamps, and house phone. He gets lanterns to light the house. Later, a pine limb hits a window and Francie screams. Cort and Liza try to calm her down by letting her pet Catfish. Until Catfish runs off with Francie's hand stunk in his leash.
They stopped to the sound of a nonhuman scream. They continued and Cort realized the animals of the swamp were going to the same mounds they are going to. They got out of the water, due to alligators and Cort scared away the animals on the mound. A hog stood its ground, so Cort got Liza and Francie to climb a juniper tree. The pig charged at Cort and one of its tusks stabbed him in his leg. Cort got up the tree to meet the girls. He then tells the girls to pick the berries, chew them, and rub the paste on themselves to stop ant bites. Cort uses a fabric from Liza flotation vest to catch water for them to drink. A black bear was on a tree next to them and Liza asked Francie whats his name. Francie mumbled Elmo, (she has a Elmo doll at home), and she asks Cort to help him with the snakes. So Cort uses a spear he made to take snakes of the tree.
Cort runs out into the storm, to get Francie. He tells Liza to go get light and goes to find Francie. Liza gets back with a flashlight and Cort tells her to wait on the ramp. Cort gets the boat on and gets Liza so they can get to Francie. They get to the houseboat and get Francie. They leave Catfish in the houseboat and set out into the shallow water. Cort navigates the area their in and with a compass, they embark to Bottle Creek. After a while, Cort carries Francie and Liza navigates the compass. As they traveled, animals foam frantic and desperate. Cort starts to talk to the reader, how his father guides wild-hogs hunts. He recalls an account of a female hog that attacked him when he was ten years old. They continued swimming in the waters of Bottle Creek.
