Basic Functions of Utility Software
System Software
System software is a type of computer program that is designed to run a computer's hardware and application programs; it is the interface between the hardware and the user applications.
Application Software
Application software or applications are productivity programs or end-user programs because they enable the user to complete tasks such as creating documents, spreadsheets, databases, publications, etc.
-Helps to manage, maintain and control computer resources.
-Examples of utility programs: anti virus software, backup software and disk tools

Servers: servers are computers that hold shared files, programs, and the network operating system. There are many different kind of servers, and one server can provide several functions.
Transmission media: Transmission media are the facilities used to interconnect computers in a network. Transmission media are sometimes called channels, links or lines.
Software
Network Interface card: Each computer in a network has a special expansion card called network interface card (NIC). The NIC prepares and sends data, receives data and controls data between the computer and the network.
