The Joker: A Nihilist at Heart

Nihilism

Possible Psychological Disorders

Nihilists tend to believe in the concept of not adhering to any structure or authority that they don't deem to be of value. Left on its own this can be fine, but it can easily lead to anarchists and warriors who battle to take down establishments.

*Anarchist- Wanting to create destruction all around him

*Disassociate Personal Disorder- May not be aware that there are split sides to his own personality

*Nihilism- Does not believe in morality

*Homicidal Sociopath- Freely murders without remorse

*Intermittent Explosive Disorder- Capable of extreme rage

Brief History

First introduced in Batman #1 (1940).

The Way out

Character History

Started off as a mass serial killer. Later moved to be a campy, comedic character during the 1960's in the Adam West led television series. Shifted back to a darker, menacing presence during the 1970's. In the comics, he has been responsible for killing Robin and paralyzing Batgirl.

Constantly changing backstory and history. No rhyme or reason to it.

"A True nihilist would believe in nothing, have no loyalties, and no purpose other than do destroy."

Told a story in "The Killing Joke" (1988) of being driven to the point of madness by losing his pregnant wife and falling into a vat of acid all in the same day.

Has stated "if I'm going to have a history, I want it to be multiple choice," which means no story he tells can be verified as truth.
