Options for the Poor and Vulnerable

The moral test of a society is how it treats its most vulnerable members. The poor have the most urgent moral claim on the conscience of the nation. We are called to look at public policy decisions in terms of how they affect the poor.

Nadine Burke Ted Talk

In this Ted talk Nadine Burke explains the correlation with childhood trauma and affects of parenting. This relates to the common good because if the community doesn't contribute to helping the child it will damage the way they function as an adult in the future.

Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic social teaching is the body of doctrine developed by the Catholic Church on matters of social justice, involving issues of poverty and wealth, economics, social organization and the role of the state.

MONSTER

The novel Monster goes against the catholic social teaching because Steve was severely discriminated and accused of a crime that he did not commit. Just because he grew up in a project people assumed that he was a bad person.

Community and the Common Good

Everyone has a responsibility to contribute to the good of the whole society, to the common good.

The human person is sacred and social. We realize our dignity and rights in relationship with others, in community.

The novel Road Ends demonstrates the common good because when Megan arrives in London she has no where to stay since her friend left. The new house owners offered Megan to stay with them until she is able to find a place to live.
