Women in Love

It's a novel of four different personalities: Gerald Crich, Gudrun Brangwen, Ursula Brangwen and Rupert Birkin.

The four were concerned with questions of society, politics, and the relationship between men and women.

Rupert is sure of his feelings about Ursula, but Ursula has is doubts.

The sisters meet two men, Rupert and Gerald. The four become friends. Rupert and Ursula's relationship develops quickly. And Gudrun eventually begins a love affair with Gerald.

With the time Gerald and Gudrun's relationship becomes stormy.

Also, not much later Rupert suddenly realizes he's in love with Gerald and pushes him for a vow of commitment.

Author D.H. Lawrence, regarded today as one of the most influential writers of the 20th century.

David Herbert Lawrence was born on September 11, 1885, in the small mining town of Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, England.

His father, Arthur John Lawrence, was a coal miner, and his mother, Lydia Lawrence, worked in the lace-making industry to supplement the family income. Lawrence's mother was from a middle-class family that had fallen into financial ruin, but not before she had become well-educated and a great lover of literature.

She instilled in young D.H. a love of books and a strong desire to rise above his blue-collar beginnings.

He died in France in 1930.

Ursula and Gudrun Brangwen were two sisters living in the Midlands of England in the 1910s.

Gerald though he loves Rupert, the male-male relationship and his growing love for Gudrun confused him.

Introduction

The book ends with a conversation between Rupert and Ursula, as he argues that it would have been possible for the two men to have had a close intimate relationship.

Below we present one of the authors of the most renowned romantic literary genre of the last century and he was recognized internationally for the shocking scenes containing his novels, including women in love.

Analysis of the literary genres

The storyline picks up at this point, as the characters begin reacting to each other and letting their emotions run the show.

After, Rupert asks Ursula to marry him, an she agrees. Ursula and Rupert marry and the four decide to take a vacation to the Swiss Alps.

Women in love is a novel.

Rupert tries to explain to Ursula that he needs Gerald as he needs her (Her for the perfect relationship with a woman, and Gerald for the perfect relationship with a man.

In 1919, with the First World War finally ended, Lawrence once again departed England for Italy. There, he spent two highly enjoyable years traveling and writing. In 1920, he revised and published Women in Love, which he considered the second half of The Rainbow. He also edited a series of short stories that he had written during the war, which were published under the title My England and Other Stories in 1922.

One afternoon, Gerald finds Loerke and Gudrun on a picnic and he becomes anger, almost he strangling Gudrun to death.

At the last minute, he lets her go and he run into the mountains, where he dies of exposure to the cold.

Gudrun is devastated, despite the fact that she wasn't sure of her feeling for Gerald.

Gudrun begins an intense friendship with Loerke. Gudrun had initially felt a strong attraction to Gerald but, because he lacks a certain passion, her feelings are fading away.

Analysis of characters

Analysis of main events

Rupert Birkin works as a scholl inspector and is often thought to be semi-autobiographical of Lawrence. He's written as a passionate person with strong ideas.

Gerald Crich is a complex character who is heir to a coal-mine fortune. He struggles with the past and present ideas of men and their role in society.

Ursula Brangwen is the older sister and she is a teacher. She will fall in love with Rupert Birkin. Ursula struggles with the concept of the marriage and her role as a woman.

Gudrun Brangwen, the younger sister, is an artist. She will fall in love with Gerald Crich. She is a passionate person and she is often struggling to align her personality with social norms of women.

The Brangwen sisters meet and fall in love with two men who, like them, are emotionally intense and often confused about love and life.

The story tells about relationships and societal expectations between men and women, and even men and men.

Eventually, the drama of these highly reactive couples results in tragedy.
