Stage 1- The Call:

The Prime Minister will request an election to the Governor General, who will then formally announce the election.

Stage 5 - The Voters

Stage 4- The Campaign

Each voter on the Voters List is told of the location where they are to cast their votes to, and anyone who is ineligible on the Voter’s List is informed of how to get on it.

The campaign lasts for 28 days in prelude to the election. The last day of the campaign is completed on election day. Each party is to in this time promote their stand in the election. Methods such as debates, meetings, advertisements, lawn signs, leaflets, home meetings and public appearances are all included forms used in the promotion process. The conduct of these campaigns is watched over by the Federal Government.

Stage 6 - Election Day

Polling stations, located in public buildings, are opened for voters to cast their votes. A Deputy Returning Officer administers voting at each individual polling station. A Polling Clerk is used at each station to record the names of voters. Voters cast their vote into a ballot box, where the votes are kept secret and anonymous and eventually tallied for votes. Polling stations are open for 12 hours on the given Election Day where within this time, Voters cast votes for the representative they want to win in their riding.

Stage 2- The Nominations:

Nominations can be submitted by candidates for the election. Most of whom will run on behalf of a political party, although can be deemed of individual status in an election.

Stage 3- The Voter's List

The Voter’s List is made by the Chief Electoral Officer or CEO, it contains the names of the citizens able to vote in the election.

Stage 7 - The Count

After polls are closed, each ballot box is taken to a central location, where counters count the votes. Scrutineers, members from the different parties are on grounds to make sure the count is done fairly.

Stage 8 - The Winner

The Candidate in each riding with the most votes is declared the winner and then is the representative for their particular riding in Parliament. The political party winning the most representative positions from each riding is then asked to form the government. The leader of the party with the most elected representatives will then become the Prime Minister.
