The rising action is Christian, who is looking for adventure and runs away from home only to find a gentle old troll who decides to raise him. It turns out that Christian is a very curious and inventive lad. He grows up loving Ed, the troll, romping with his two dogs and reading books which are found in the forest. All along he spies across the river at a beautiful palace.

Climax

Falling Action/ Resolution

The climax of the story when Christian decides that he cannot live without Marigold and goes across the river to get her.

The falling action is when Christian finds it difficult to win this girl princess because her mother, the Queen, has set up various suitors to propose and marry young Marigold.
