The Danish Refugee Council was formed in 1956 following the Second World War to deal with the large influx of refugees displaced during the war. The organisation was formed in Denmark and receives most of its support from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department and the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as donations. The Non-Government Organisation has been active in many large scale humanitarian initiatives. One of its most successful campaigns was when they provided over 50 percent of all the humanitarian aid in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the wars of independence. The organisation is now working in over 30 countries.
The second program the DRC contributes to is the Diaspora Emergency Action & Coordination (DEMAC). The DEMAC is funded by three other European organisations, and its goal is to explore and implement new methods of intervention and improve the organisational capacities of NGO's that are built around providing aid to refugees.
The Danish Refugee Council is a Danish not-for-profit that helps people that are struggling all over the world. They help them by supplying them with food, water and shelter. They also provide education for people who can't afford it.

The DRC currently contributes two major programs.
The first is the Diaspora Project, which focuses on relief, rehabilitation and development projects, mainly in Somalia and Afghanistan, as there is a large amount of refugees in Denmark of Somali and Afghan origin.
