Loneliness in The Great Gatsby

By: Juan Ojeda

Gatsby was so caught up in this empty life of riches and material wealth and so focused on getting Daisy back, that he didn't realize he was isolating himself from society and becoming lonelier by the minute.

How does loneliness tie in?

All he achieved was to buy a mansion with a view of Daisy's dock and throw pointless parties with people who didn't even know him.

This all relates back to the theme because he was so focused in trying to get his love back, Daisy, that he created this environment that revolved around her and everything and everyone else didn't matter.

Gatsby even took the blame for when daisy caused the accident. If he had not allowed Daisy to drive his car then Myrtle would more than likely not have been killed or at least been a hit and run.

Even after all the trouble he went through trying to find the perfect house and throwing all these amazing parties, he still didn't get Daisy.

He cared for certain people but people did not care about Gatsby the same way. Which lead to his downfall.

He had constant parties, but even then his love for Daisy affected him greatly and made him very lonely.
