The Articles of Confederation was an agreement among the 13 original states of the United States of America, in November 15 1777, that served as its first constitution. Which was a draft by John Dickinson of Pennsylvania. The Articles of Confederation lasted until March 4, 1789, when they were replaced by the U.S. Constitution.

In May 25, a meeting in Philadelphia was held, in order to control the situation as many states were interested in changing the Articles. They agreed that changes would not work, and instead, the entire Articles of Confederation needed to be replaced with a new U.S. Constitution that would dictate the structure of the national government.

The new constitution of the USA was ratified.
This constitution, established three branches of government executive, legislative and judicial.
September 1787
Shays' Rebellion. The postwar depression hit particularly hard farmers: many of them fell into debt and faced losing their farms. By this problem, a small band of Massachusetts farmers rebelled. To stop them, Massachusetts legislature asked Congress for help, but Congress had no soldiers and no money to offer. This issue showed how weak was the Confederation Congress, again, and highlighted the need to revise the Articles of Confederation.
June 25, 1778
A committee of three states was appointed to prepare the form of a ratification of the Articles of Confederation. Three days after The Articles of Confederation were ordered to be engrossed, delegates from eight states, in which there were Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia, ratified.
In 1787
At the end of the war, the USA had to pay war debts. Therefore, with the debts that caused the war, each states the Union had, hesitated. The economy couldn't benefit from the opportunity. The power of the Congress resulted to be too little. This also caused a postwar depression.
In 1783
After the end of the Revolutionary War, the leaders of the new American nation created the Annapolis Convention, in order to have a government capable of fairly and efficiently meeting. However, most of the states pointed out the problems of the Articles of Confederation. They didn't agree with the fact that each state only had one vote in Congress, or that the Congress did not have the power to tax or to regulate foreign and interstate commerce.
