Plants

Extreme Weather Patterns

Tropical rainforests can get hit by a rainstorm. Lightning can cause forests fires.

Tropical rainforests have over 40,000 different plants. Some of these plants are bananas, orchids, coffee beans, cacao, rubber trees, Brazil nut trees, and heliconia.

Animals

Type of Soil

Rainforests are populated with different insects, reptiles, and amphibious animals. Some of these animals are butterflies, beetles, spiders, ticks, snakes, lizards, frogs, parrots, toucans, sloths, and, jaguars.

The soil in the rainforest is very poor in nutrients, because the soil stays damp all year long. Only a thin layer of decaying organic matter is found.

Type of Climate

Tropical rainforests are extremely humid because they get about 250 cm of rain per year.

Where are they located?

Tropical rainforests are located in the low latitudes near the equator. Some are even located in southeast Asia and the pacific islands.
