Sherri Valance is a 16 year old tuff (tough) looking girl who is a cheerleader. She has green eyes and long red hair, and because of her red hair, people call her Cherry instead of Sherri. She is always dressed sharp and is very good looking. She is part of the Social group, also known as the socs.
Cherry is different from all the other socs,
she is committed to non-violence and she tries to do the right thing (tries to make things better for others around her) because she likes doing what's right. She hates fights and she can't stand them. She is not filled with hatred (unlike other socs). She says that socs are sophisticated (cool to a point of not feeling anything). Also, Cherry loves watching sunsets because she enjoys the beauty of them, and she also enjoys reading books.
Some of Cherry's personality traits are: loyalty;
courageous; helpful; truthful; and down to earth. Cherry is loyal because she is very loyal to the greasers even if she belongs to the social group (the socs). [She is very loyal because she cares for others besides the socs]. She is courageous because she had the courage to do what was right in the tough situations (she went home just so the socs wouldn't get into a fight with the greasers). Sherri is helpful because she decided to help the greasers by eavesdropping on the socs to hear if they were going to bring weapons to the rumble or not. Cherry is truthful because she admitted to Ponyboy that if
she saw Dallas again, she would fall in love with him instead of Bob.
Lastly, Sherri is down to earth because of the way she is, how
she acts and all.
Cherry's relationship to Robert (Bob) Sheldon (who was killed by Johnny) is that they're boyfriend and girlfriend (in the novel Cherry talks about her boyfriend Bob). Cherry's relationship to Johnny is just like friends, but Cherry cannot forgive Johnny for killing Bob. Cherry's relationship to Dally is she doesn't wanna see his face again because she is afraid she'll fall in love with him. Finally, Cherry's relationship to Ponyboy is like a good friend and all. She finds Pony easy to talk to because he doesn't
judge.
I think that the future for Cherry is going to be a whole lot different than how it is right now. I kind of see Cherry maybe thinking of joining the greasers and all (leaving the socs). I think that the only thing that won't change is her personality and everything, she'll still be the same Sherri she was. I know she'll be missing Bob, her boyfriend, Dally, the boy she would fall in love with if she ever looked at him again, and Johnny, the boy who told Dally to leave Cherry alone on the first
night that they met at the movies.
