The only contaminant, that affects water quality, that we can't control are those that are naturally produced. Examples of these are dried leaves, bird droppings, dead insects, and animal feces that can reach our sources of water. There are some natural impurities in our water such as arsenic (a natural metal), that can affect our water.
There are factors that reach the natural water and pollute it like agricultural runoffs, fertilizers, cleansers, sediments, and even pesticides that eventually seep down into the ground and contaminate the water.
There are some contaminants that affect water quality, which include natural, agricultural, industrial, microbial, and human added. This presentation will show you how unaware you really are about your water surroundings and what really goes into your body when you drink it.
As you have seen throughout this presentation, the water that we drink seem so disgusting, but that's why there is something called water filters. Your life is in good hands as long as you don't drink the water straight from Lake Ontario or any other source of water. Thanks for watching, we hoped you enjoyed the show.
Without mentioning that industrial waste being dumped directly into the rivers, then your list of water contaminants are incomplete. They also have very hazardous chemicals that seep into the ground to pollute the water and the ground. The industries have many ways of discharging their toxins into the water, such as run-offs, seepage of stored waste, or just dumping it. Some industries use large amounts of water for processing their goods.
These contaminants include bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and cysts which dwell in the old, rusty industrial pipes. As the water travels through the pipes to reach your home, these contaminants get added to our water. They can cause diseases such as Salmonella, E. Coli, and Hepatitis A.
Humans also have a contribution to the way our water is polluted. Believe it or not, we do this in two ways: knowingly, and unknowingly. One way is when water companies add chlorine into the water to prevent microbes which later reacts to other organic contaminants. This produces toxic by-products.
When water with detergents or soaps get dumped onto the ground, they seep into the layers of the ground into the aquafier. The aquafier is where we get our drinking water from. The chemicals dumped onto the ground go through the plants and green life contaminating them and the water.
American and Canadian scientists are finding that out of sight, out of mind can no longer be the approach we take to the chemicals in our waters. Substances that we use everyday are turning up in our lakes, rivers and ocean, where they can impact sea creatures and possibly ourselves. Now these contaminants are affecting aquatic environments and may be coming back to haunt us in unanticipated ways. They affect us with numeral types of deadly diseases some that are not yet even known to man.
Humans also contribute to water contamination unknowingly. Without being aware, humans are causing pharmaceutical drugs and medication to enter the water. When people consume drugs, whatever their bodies cannot absorb eventually reaches the sewer and contaminates it. Although this water is treated, many drugs are still left undetected.
