Ted Bundy

Bundy is suspected of more than 36 murders, possibly more than a hundred. Starting around 1974, Bundy began his spree by abducting multiple young women from their homes, raping, and killing them before disposing their bodies. Some believe that Bundy's victims resembled his college sweetheart who devastated him. Other rumors include the murder of his 8-year-old neighbor who mysteriously died when Bundy was as young as 15. Several times, Bundy was apprehended in prison, but managed to escape where he continued to kill.

Bundy's Disorders:

Bundy was classified as a High Factor 1 Psychopath, meaning he was extremely intelligent and didn't show many signs of psychopathy. This also characterized Bundy as both narcissistic and antisocial because of his grandiose sense of self, manipulation, and lack of remorse. Dr. Al Carlisle, who interviewed Bundy after his first arrest, found that Bundy's sense of right and wrong was further skewed the longer he continued his crimes. Also in a study conducted by 73 psychologists from APA Division 42, most psychologists diagnosed Bundy as antisocial, psychopathic, and perhaps narcissistic.

Introduction:

The Fate of Ted Bundy:

Ted Bundy's psychological disorder can be attributed to the fact that he was an illegitimate child, suspected to be the offspring of his mother and his grandfather. To cover this up, Bundy lived with his grandparents and grew up thinking his mother was his sister. Throughout his adolescence, Bundy was suspected of petty crimes, but was never charged. However, into his adulthood, Bundy was successful, attending college with honors and becoming involved in local politics. By his female victims, Bundy was described as charming and charasmatic.

Ted Bundy was found guilty and was sentenced to the death penalty. On January 24, 1989, Bundy was executed through the electric chair. 2,000 volts of electricity went through his body for 10 minutes (7:06-7:16 AM). People at his execution held signs like "Bundy BBQ" and "Fry-Day". As for his confirmed 30-something victims, most families never had closure because of the mystery surrounding Bundy's victims. Bundy confessed to 30 of his murders, yet is suspected of much more. This, along with the horrifying treatment of his female victims left many of the victims' families unassuaged until Bundy's execution.

Ted Bundy, born November, 1946 as Theodore Robert Cowell, was famous for the murder and rape of an estimated 40 young women in the 1970's. Bundy murdered his victims through strangulation, claiming to be motivated by his addiction to violent pornography. As his crimes increased in violence, so did his claims that his addiction was insatiable.

Bundy in Court:

Although never officially diagnosed, Bundy was accused of a multitude of psychological disorders including psychopathy and narcissism. In many of his interviews, Bundy was completely open about his crimes and his motivation for doing such heinous things to innocent women. He also appeared in court smiling, laughing, and providing an inappropriate sense of humor. Bundy also alienated the court with his attempt to represent himself along with his arguments with the judge over legal matters. Even sentenced to death, Bundy was never remorseful for his crimes; instead he only felt sorry for himself.
