An injury is a physical harm or damage to someones body caused by an accident or attack.
A Hard tissue injury refers to an injury to the bone or the hard matter within the body.
In pairs, come up with at least 2 examples of a hard tissue injury.
Hard Tissue Injuries
Open and closed fractures - A closed fracture is where there is little displacement of the bone, which therefore does not cause much damage to surrounding structures. An open fracture has a high risk of infection, so it is vital that they are dealt with immediately.
Complete and Incomplete fractures - Some fractures do not crack the length of the bone, this is an incomplete fracture. Fractures where a complete break in the bone occurs, these are called complete fractures.
These are another hard tissue injury to the front of the tibia (shin). This is often caused by inflammation to the periostium (sheath around the bones surface) and is common in runners.

A dislocation occurs when the correct alignment of bones become disrupted, moving them out of their normal position. Such injuries are often caused by impact with another player or object, or by a fall.
Dislocations commonly occur at the shoulder, hip, knees, elbows, ankles, fingers and toes.
Very often, a dislocated joint results in ligament damage which become torn or stretched from the moving of the bones.
If a dislocation occurs, seek medical attention. A trained medical professional will need to relocate the joint, ideally within the hour to prevent long term damage.
Once a dislocation has occurred, it is likely that it will re-occur. A subluxation is an incomplete or partial dislocation.
A stress fracture is different from the other forms of fracture as it is not caused by a traumatic injury.
A stress fracture can also be called a fatigue or insufficiency fracture and generally occurs in weight bearing exercises.
Stress fractures can be particularly difficult to spot using traditional x-ray equipment, particuarly in the early stages of development.
