The main reasons for France to colonize was to gain land, and raw material. The county also needed some new markets and trading posts.
Morocco was a fairly small country, and the reason for colonization was largely based on land. Placed on two oceans, and infront of Algeria, which the French had already colonized, it had a greatly strategic placement. It protected Algeria from invasion. Also lastly, the more land an empire could get ahold of the more power they had.
In the 1900's France and Italy made a secret agreement that assigned Morocco to France and Libya to Italy. France sent ships and troops there to sign agreements and take over Morocco.
France sent tens of thousands of men to take over Morocco. It bordered Algeria and had strategic placement for the French.
France wanted to protect the border of there Algerian territory. France also thought that it had strategic placement, being that it was on two oceans.
Because of their unstable government and inefficiency they could not fight against France.

Expanding countries that were gaining power and resources wanted to continue to gain control. France would take over smaller countries for their resources and get even more power. They thought that the more land you had, the more power you possessed.
