It is the rolling grass plains of Argentina where the Gauchos thrive to ranch and farm livestock who live off the land.

THE LOCATION

Las Pampas, or The Pampas, is a huge plain. It stretches from the Atlantic to the Andes Mountains in Argentina and Uruguay. The pampas is located just below Buenos Aires, between 34° and 30° south latitude, and 57° and 63° west latitude. The Pampas Plains are home to the gaucho, or the original South American cowboy.

Covers more than 750,000 km2 (289,577 sq mi), that include the Argentine provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos and Córdoba, most of Uruguay, and the southernmost Brazilian State, Rio Grande do Sul.

If you traveled across Pampas it would feel a lot longer than if you would be going through the amazon rainforest, because all the Pampas Region is, is grass, miles and miles of grass. and a couple of Gauchos.

Characteristic animals of the Pampas include foxes, skunks, small herds of guanaco, viscachas, bush dogs, and many bird species related to the sparrows, hawks, and waterfowl of the North American prairies.

The name Pampas comes from a Quechua Indian word meaning “flat surface.”
