Plot

Setting

In Hoot, a young boy named Roy Eberhardt moves to Florida from Montana. Roy spots a barefooted runner dash by his bus so Roy runs after him but gets hit by a golf ball. He meets the kid's step-sister and who doesn't want him to know anything. As Mother Paula's All-American Pancake House is being set up, the young boy, Napoleon, tampers with the site to save owls that have homes in the ground, if bulldozed the owls will die. Roy sets Dana up by making him go to the construction site to get caught so he is put in Juvie, a public meeting is held to show of the new Pancake House so Roy, Beatrice and Napoleon go to tell the people attending that they could kill owls if this is built. People soon protest and it brings press and police as Roy and his friends walk away in triumph.

Conflict & Resolution

Point of View

This story is told in a third person point of view as a narrator

Conflict: A huge con flict in this book is Mother Paula's Pancake House possibly killing innocent owls. This conflict is the main purpose by also causing Dana getting in Juvie and the officer getting in trouble for sleeping while watching the counstruction site.

Resolution: I hoestly did like the ending because it bought Roy, his classmates, and citizens of Coconut Cove together to stop them from hurting wildlife without a legal permit.

Theme

Protagonist

I say the theme to this novel is to stand u for what you believe in. On page 242 Roy says to Napoleon, "We want to help you save the owls. Serously, we're locked and loaded." Saying that they can stop them from destroying the owls homes.

Roy Eberhardt- main character who moves from Montanna to Florida. Joins Beatrice and her step-brother to save the owls from the construction site

Quote

Minor Characters

Beatrice Leep- minor friend of Roy's who helps him out of getting bullied

Napoleon Leep (Mullet Fingers)- Beatrice's stepbrother who runs away from home and later injurs himself, also tries to ruin construction site to save owls.

Roy's Parents- worry about roy throughout the book and help him in tough situations

Dana Matherson- Bullies Roy on th bus whenever there is a chance

"Roy stared at the tops of his sneakers. He couldn't remember another day in his life when so many things had gone so wrong."

I chose this quote because many people could connect to this by, having a bad day or something just making them sad. For Roy, it was due to him having to lie to his parents and people around him for a kid that he didn't know the name to.

Recommendation

I recomend this book to anyone who loves animals or that love action packed books with a nice ending.
