The Seventh Amendment protects our rights in civil cases and guarantee of freedom. It protects the public from corrupt and abuse from the government. Trial by Jury originated around the 12th century in England. The juries were 12 local men who were brought to court to find if they knew any facts of a case. They were known as "witnesses"

In 1789, the new constitution was purposed. At first, some thought "right to trial jury" was not for civil cases but for criminal cases. The Federalists argued that constitution allowed the congress to make laws for civil cases as Right to Trial Jury yet the Anti federalists wanted it written on stone.
George Mason and Elbridge Gerry were against the new constitution. Six states sent a list of amendments to Philadelphia and 5 of them demanded Right to Trial Jury.
