Silent Killer : Plastic

Plastic is very harmful towards animals and humans. Because plastic is not biodegradable, it stays in the ocean and releases toxins which affect life and the environment.

So what can we do?

What is plastic?

Plastic is a flexible synthetic material made from different polymers

Well what is it used for??

About 300 million tons of plastic is made per year.

plastic bags

water bottles

videogames

shampoo bottles

switch from plastic to paper!

and even those little beads in face washes!

Not an animal lover? Well Humans are affected too!

However, the items made from plastic are thrown away and end up in sewers, where they get carried down waterways

recycle!

All the toxins from plastic are being released into humans as fish and other aquatic foods are eaten. Even when you swim in the ocean, those toxins may enter your body.

help clean up the ocean!

Plastic is not biodegradable, meaning it cannot decompose without harming the environment.

And then get dumped into the ocean

so what's so bad about plastic ending up in the ocean?

Instead of decomposing, it photo-degrades (the sun breaks the plastic into tiny pieces

Shear Waters are murdered by plastic

Together, we can reduce the amount of animals that are murdered by plastic every day. Help stop these silent killers.

These birds eat from the surface of water, where squid usually swim.

But they mistake squid for plastic, and it gets stuck in their intestines and kills them.

fish digest plastic and all the toxins as well.

Great Pacific Garbage Patch

A huge amount of trash lying in the North Pacific region
