Matthew Evans was Henry's assistant during
the making of the light bulb. At the time Matthew
was the keeper of a hotel in downtown Toronto.
There is no picture of him.
Thomas Edison
The man who developed the
lightbulb.
Henry Woodward was born on May 16, 1858.
He had two younger brothers and an older
sister. His mother and father, Marc and Lucy
Woodward loved Henry very much and encouraged
him into doing whatever he wanted to do when he
was older. When Henry was six years old, his father
Marc died from Respiratory cancer. He always told
Henry to never give up and to fulfill his dreams.
After graduating from high school, Henry later
became a student at the University Of Toronto
studying to be a medic in his future career.
Henry and his next door neighbor Matthew Evans
were best friends and loved to experiment on
things. One of they're successful experiments was when they were trying to create a spark by connecting
an Induction Coil to a smee battery.
What happened was the Smee Battery started to make the Induction Coil buzz when they connected them together. It then in an instant sparked. They had now noticed that right in front of they're eyes there was a new career.
Once they noticed that they had just
made a huge discovery, they then were
granted a canadian patent for the invention.
After they made the invention they didn't
have enough money to develop it so they
later sold the patent to Thomas Edison for
5,000 dollars."100,000 dollars in our time".
Thomas later finished the lightbulb and then
made it usable. It was then shipped all over
the world. That is why everyone thinks that
Thomas Edison was the man who invented
the light bulb but was really just the one who
developed it.
Before Henry they're were two men
Joseph Swan, and Jhon Starr. They
were the ones who made the blueprints
and actually made the patent. But they
just didn't know how to make the spark
happen to power up the lightbulb. So
they both gave up on it.
Henry later died in 1917
There is no recorded date of when
Matthew Evans died.
Thomas Edison later died on October 18, 1931.
