Collaboration Continued

  • One goal for this year is to utilize quality and allotted professional development time for collaboration

  • When we collaborate effectively as educators then our students benefit.

2. Collaboration

Who Should You Collaborate With?

  • Teachers within your department

  • Teachers within other departments (interdisciplinary)

  • Students

  • Community members
  • Research shows that augmenting inquiry with interdisciplinary, is an effective method in education (Hanson & Stultz, 2015)

  • Collaboration is key to success!

Welcome Back Faculty & Staff

Why Change the Re-take Policy?

Good morning everyone! It is so great to see everyone back and looking refreshed. I know that it is going to be a successful year. Let's start by addressing some goals for this year.

1. Expectations

- Even though retakes are effective, they cannot be done 100% of the time

- If done the right way, re-take assessments can become effective in the learning environment

- We want our students to master the content, but we also want them to be "weened" off of the retakes by the time they are ready for college

Wormeli, R. (2011)

- We are very fortunate to work in an outstanding school district. My expectations for all of you as educators is extremely high. I know that your effort and commitment to this school will bring you much success for the year.

- For your formal observations this year I have created a rubric for each subject group to look at so that you are aware of what I am expecting during each formal observation.

- During our afternoon session I will give you time to evaluate the rubric, ask questions, learn my expectations and understand what I am looking for during my observations

Calahan, 2014.

I also want to share with you my own personal goals for the year

My Professional Goals for the Year

"The Most Effective principals operate from a value system that places a high priority on people and relationships" Donaldson, Marnik, Mackenzie & Ackerman (2009).

Have a wonderful year!

- Transformational- Create a positive organizational climate, achieve goals, and motivate other

- Transactional- Establish structure

2. Set high expectations for myself, all of you, and the students

3. Be as visible as possible within the building (formal and informal observations)

4. Be consistent with the rules that are set for discipline
