Required Education
Daily Activities
-Aspiring technicians need to complete a diploma, certificate, or associate's degree program.
-Certified Surgical Technologist must graduate from a CAAHEP- approved program and pass the certifying exam.
Salary
-Assist the surgeon with putting on his/ her gown and gloves.
-Prepare patients for surgery.
- Responsible for anticipating needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and providing needed supplies.
-Pass off tissue specimens in sterile technique so that the patient doesn't receive a surgical site infection.
Hourly Pay: $20.09
Annual Pay:$41,790
(The salary varies depending on experience, hospital size or industry.)

Attributes & Abilities
Surgical technicians need basic knowledge of biology, medicine, psychology, and safety. Excellent manual dexterity and arm/hand steadiness are perhaps the most critical skills needed in operating rooms(OR), along with communication skills, particularly the ability to comprehend speech and effectively communicate with other OR team members.

When not in the operating room surgical technologist work in clean, well-lighted, cool environments. In operating rooms it can become warm while working under surgical lights when wearing the sterile gown and gloves. Technologists and other members of the team must stand for long periods of time and remain alert during operations as well. There is a possibility that they might be exposed to diseases, unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.
