Settling on the Great Plains
- To make more money, farmers often had to raise more crops
- Bonanza Farms (huge single-crop farms) were the outcome
- As crop prices fell, farmers ended up losing money
- By 1900~ the average farmer had nearly 150 acres under cultivation
- 1885 & 1890~ major drought caused many bonanza farms to fold

Answer:
- Social--> Homesteaders were largely isolated and didn't interact with other
- Economic--> Many farmers faced debt due to new technology and not enough production
- Bonanza farms could not compete with the smaller farmers who were more flexible in the crops they grew
- The price of shipping out the crops also added to the farmer's debt
