Living things are composed of cells.

  • Cells are the basic building blocks of life.
  • Cells are the smallest unit of self-sustaining life.

Living things require water and a source of energy.

Living things can undergo change over time.

  • Plants get energy from the sun
  • Animals eat to get energy
  • Monkeys change into humans

Living things(organisms) are made from the same basic chemical ingredients.

Living things can reproduce and grow.

Living things are able to repair injuries.

  • Kids grow up, and have their own kids
  • Animals do the same thing
  • DNA stores biological information

Cuts can be healed, broken bones heal.

Living things have limited lifespans.

Living things have the ability to move.

  • Humans walk, run, and jog
  • Snakes slither
  • Both living, both moving

Circle of life:

  • Animal dies
  • Becomes the soil
  • Gives food for plant-eaters
  • Plant-eater dies
  • Cycle begins again.

Living things can respond to their surroundings.

Homeostasis:

  • The ability to control your body temperature, to stay balanced inside.
