The Mafia is a criminal syndicate that emerged in the mid-nineteenth century in Sicily, Italy. Each group also known as a family and clans control parts of cities and towns witch there main criminal business is protection racketeering, extortion, bootlegging liquor, smuggling, and loan sharking

Leaders of the mafia saw the United States as big chance to earn more money and get stronger. During the late nineteenth century many mafia members were went over seas to America with many italian immigrants.
