Monitoring Cont.

  • Power must be turned OFF before disconnecting any of the probes and should not be turned ON until the next probe has been connected.

ALPHA: Alpha monitoring will normally be performed: with the Alpha probe in close proximity to, or directly

on, the surface being monitored

X-RAY: The probe will be held by the adjustable: carrying handle. X-ray monitoring will normally be performed with the probe in close proximity to the surface being monitored. The protective plastic cover should be used during all operations. The cover will not adversely affect performance of the X-ray probe

Description

Preoperational Test

The AN/PDR-77 Radiac Set is a set of portable radiation detection equipment for detecting Aplha, Beta/Gamma, and X-Ray radiation.

  • Set ALARM switch to VIS (center). Alarm sound stops. Set ALARM switch to AUD/VIS (down). TREND lights come on. Set ALARM switch back to CHIRP (up). Lights go out, alarm sounds., Set ALARM switch to VIS (center).
  • At the end of the 10 second segment test, the digit/unit test begins with 3 zeros followed by 111, 222, and so on.
  • After all tests are Ok after 10-60 seconds, a flashing 9 appears. If 0 appears notify Unit.

Equipment

GAMMA: The probe can be in the pouch or hand held: as desired. The probe cover must be closed. Detection is provided by both high and low range detectors that auto range smoothly and without interruption.

BETA: The probe must be hand held. The cover must: be open to allow BETA particles to enter the probes window. Only the low range detector is capable of detecting BETA.

  • The AN/PDR-77 consists of can be Radiacmeter to which can be connected either of 3 probes (Alpha, Beta/Gamma, or X-Ray) for measuring a particular type of radiation.
