"The Best Bad Luck I've Ever Had"

Setting Shapes The Plot

The setting of Moundville, Alabama 1917 had a lot to do with the plot of the story. Because it was so long ago, people were still very racist. In 1917 colored and white people were not aloud to do anything together. They couldn't go to the same schools or share conversations. Colored people were not treated with the same respect as white people. This was a sad period of time.

Cause and Effect

  • In the story "The Best Bad Luck I've Ever Had" by Kristin Levine there is a very tragic page. It talks about how a white man, named big foot, was trying to shoot a colored man, named Doc Haley, but the Doc Haley found a gun and shot the Big Foot for self-defense. Even though it was for self-defense, Doc Haley was sentanced to Death.
