(as far as researchers know)

biopsychosocial model- biological and genetic, social, and psychological factors

Example

Mandy's counselor told her that she needed to get "out there in the world" and try new things so that she can get over her fears. She decided to join a yoga class.

A nice woman came up to Mandy and asked if she could do the exercises next to her. Not knowing what else to say, Mandy said that it was okay. The woman tried talking to Many, but she shut down. Too many thoughts and worries were running through her head.

I want out!

Why do I try?

I can't do

anything right.

I'll mess something up.

What am I even doing here?

Just don't talk and it will be okay.

I can't do this!

Please get me out of here.

Who is she?

Why does she want to talk to me?

What if I say the wrong thing?

Help!

This is why people think I'm snooty.

I can't handle life.

I'm worthless.

Who could want to talk to me?

Am I doing the stretches right?

Get over yourself!

I should have never

signed up for this.

I look ridiculous.

Example

Sheldon Cooper lives with a friend of his, Leonard. Before they agreed to move in together, Sheldon made Leonard sign a roommate agreement that covered every possible thing that could and could not happen. He did the same thing when he entered a relationship with Amy.

No one is allowed to sit in his seat. No one is allowed to prove him wrong. Everything must be completed to the tiniest detail. Nothing is ever good enough.

He tends to obsess over minor things that the rest of his friends don't understand or believe to be minor.

  • cannot get rid of worthless objects even when there is no sentimental value
  • don't want to work with others unless the other people do exactly as they say
  • hoards money
  • rigid and stubborn

Example

Causes for Behavior

Suzy was working on a group project with 2 other girls in her class. She let the other girls make all of the decisions, even when she disagreed with them because it was just easier than dealing with a confrontation. She did whatever possible to receive praise from her teacher and the rest of the group, even if that meant taking the project home the night before and finishing it on her own.
