Sir Launcelot

There are many similarities and differences between John Steinback and Sir Thomas Mallory version of Sir Launcelot. In Sir Launcelot du Lake Sir Launcelot was emotional, sneaky, and not loyal. In The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights, Sir Lancelot was humble, brave, and kept his words. In both of the books they was truthful, adventurous, and emotional.

Thomas Malory

In Sir Launcelot du Lake, Sir Launcelot was humble. An example of this is "Please release the prisoners and ask them to help themselves to the royal treasures" (Pg.919) This showed that Sir Launcelot du Lake was not cocky nor arrogant. Also in Sir Launcelot du Lake, he appeared to be brave. An example of this is "Not faraway stands the castle of Sir Tarquine. A knight who in fair combat has overcome more than sixty opponents whom he now holds prisoners." "My lady, please first lead me to Sir Tarquine; that I will most happily challenge this innocent knight of yours."(pg. 919) This showed that he was brave enough to stand up to fight in combat against someone who took many Knights as prisoners.

Conclusion

Our conclusion is that in both stories, they have different characteristics of Sir Launcelot du Lake. Some characteristics would be that he is humble in Sir Launcelot du Lake and he's emotional in The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights.

Though, they have similar characteristics with both of them such as Sir Launcelot being a truthful person. With this being said, both authors have captured his character very well in their own way.

John Steinback

Sir Launcelot in John Steinback is emotional. An example of this is "Each frantic Lancelot also appeared to be heartbeat at the walls of ribs trying to get the other until their held breaths burst out and Launcelot , dizzied found the door and blundered down the stairs and he was weeping bitterly. "(pg. 931) This showed he was emotional because he was crying because his feelings got in the way of Guinevere. Also in John Steinback appeared to be sneaky. An example of this is "...Guinevere issued silently from a darkened entrance. She took his arm and led him to to her dark chamber and closed the door." (pg.931) This showed that Lancelot and Guinevere was secretly sneaking around.

Similarities

In both stories about Sir Launcelot, both of them have him as a truthful person. An example from both stories would be "Sir, I see now that I might go in peace and good fellowship or otherwise fight to the death; but being the knight I am, I must tell you: I am Sir Launcelot du Lake, son of King Ban of Benwick..." (pg. 919) of Sir Launcelot du Lake and "And all of them made love to?" "That they did not, madame. There you protect me." On page 930 of Sir Launcelot. Both showed how Sir Lancelot did not try to lie to others to make himself look better or to get away with worrying about anything. Showing how he's a true knight.
