Record Player

Original Edison tin foil phonograph 1877 (Prototype)

Thomas Edison (1847-1931)

History:

Emile Berliner created and had a patent for the record player in 1887. Then in 1895, it was released to the public.

1930's and 40's, record players were well sold, but not as popular until much later.

1960's and 70's, more people placed record players in their homes because a stero playback was provided.

1980's and 90's, DJs used turntables that were attached to audio mixers to create music by using their hands to scratch against the needle,

The only way to listen to music before the phonograph or the gramophone was either listen to music live or play music yourself.

Recorded music had a greater exposure to a wide variety of music for anyone. Local musicans were able to share their music worldwide.

Record players allowed people to appreciate the whole album rather because you could not skip songs on the records like you could with CDs.

Later on, record players were not as popluar in the 1980s since they were replaced with CDs, but DJs began to use them to remix tracks.

DJs would use turntables to mix different tracks with one another to compose new music, called hip hop.

Turntables created a new genre of sound.
