How it Works

Reiki

Analyze

This method of healing may work due to a life force within the human body, and because of life forces of energy flowing through the chakras and aura. The life forces nourish the organs and cells of the body.

Photos

Reiki was brought from Japan to the west by Hawayo Takata in 1937 and from her, millions of people now know of this method of healing. This method works by life force flowing through seven pathways called chakras in the human body and around it in an aura. The life force changes when a person accepts negative energy or they exert it, thus changing how certain organs and cells work. Reiki works by the laying of hands on an area to allow for the flow of positive energy through affected negative energy areas causing it to break apart and fall away.

Reflection

During a Reiki session, a person receiving the treatment will lie on a table in a quiet place and proceed to close their eyes during the session. Then the reiki person will hover above or place their hands in certain areas where negative energy is presented. Once the session is over the person receiving the treatment and the one giving it will usually talk about how it went. Afterwards a person usually leaves feeling refreshed.

I believe it does work, because we do have energy within our body that controls how we act and feel. It was also interesting on how one person could help another by just placement of hands on top of an area. This is a challenge though; due to there is no modern methods of medicine involved. Reiki is an interesting part of science to research on.

Critique

Quiz

Reiki is not real science due to it being a form of vitalism, and being based upon the belief that the body is surrounded by an energy field. This energy field can’t be measured by any scientific tool, which causes reiki to not be considered a real form of science. It also can't be real science because there is no plausible way to measure how one's body responded to the treatment.

1. What is a Reiki treatment?

2. How many different colors represent different areas of energy throughout the body?

3. Would you consider Reiki as a way to better oneself? Why or why not?
