Case:

The Tell-Tale Heart

Created by your prosecutors:

Solomon Kim and Sandesh Karki

Evidence 3:

"But ere long, I felt myself getting pale and wished them gone." (pg.546)

How this is evidence

He tells us he knows that what he did is wrong.

This quote is probably the biggest piece of evidence that proves his sanity. He even knows that he should be guilty and punished for his crime.

How this proves his sanity

If he was insane, he would think this murder was righteous and he should not have felt guilt over killing the man and he should not be afraid of being caught by the police.

How this proves his sanity

If he was insane, he would not be able to tell us the story as well as he says he could. He could have had forgotten some facts and details about the crime.

How this is evidence

This is evidence because the narrator, himself, says he is sane!

"HEARKEN! AND OBSERVE HOW HEALTHILY -- HOW CALMLY I CAN TELL YOU THE WHOLE STORY" (pg. 542)

"I have told you that I am nervous: so I am."

(pg.544)

How is this evidence

This is evidence because he admits that he is nervous like any other sane person would be at the time of a murder.

How this proves his sanity

This proves that the defendant is sane because if he was insane, he would not believe this is wrong and he would feel like it is the right thing to do and will not feel nervous.

Conclusion

This quote tells us he is stable and sane.

Conclusion

This quote also proves sanity because he shows a lot of emotions that a sane person would show.

CONCLUSION

After examining this case for a whopping 2 weeks, we conclude that this man was sane and should be accused of first degree murder.

Both the 2nd and 3rd evidences declares that he had criminal intent to murder the man and he knows it.

The 2nd evidence confirms that he knows what he is doing is wrong, which is the cause of his nervousness

In the 3rd evidence, he states that he feels himself getting pale and wished them gone, this affirms that he is guilty of his actions.

Criminal Intent

Guilty Mind

Wrongful Purpose

Mens Rea ultimately proves this man's sanity. He has a guilty mind, and wrongful purpose, and criminal intent.

Mens Rea

Guilty!

Evidence 1:

"Hearken! and observe how healthily -- how calmly I can tell you the whole story."

The persecution knows the the defendant was, indeed, sane during the time of the murder for we have proof to support our claims. This innocent man's death was not the result of criminal insanity. The defendant should be guilty of all charges.

Evidence 3:

"But ere long I felt myself getting pale and wished them gone."

Evidence 2:

" I have told you that I am nervous: so I am."
